2009 Domestic LGBT Study: Impact of Economic Situation on LGBT Purchasing

With the current economic challenges, companies and destinations are looking to find and target markets that have growth potential. Although previous research has indicated that the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans-person) market is resilient and lucrative, no research has actually been conducted during an economic downturn to support this.

The Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Travel Gay Canada (www.travelgaycanada.com), is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a targeted market research study of the Canadian LGBT community. The research will be specifically focused on the current economic situation within Canada, and will examine what impact this will have on the purchasing and travel habits of the LGBT market.

The web-based survey will be conducted on Canadian (resident) self-identified gay, lesbian, and transgender individuals, in the months of January and February 2009. Findings of the survey will include such topics as:

  • Expected spending increases/decreases in the upcoming year

  • Expected impact on income and savings

  • Impact of spending relative to travel, living expenses, entertainment

  • How they see spending on travel changing in the next 12 months

  • What changes they may make in what and how they purchase

For more details on the study, please click here. The findings of this survey will help you determine if the LGBT market is a viable market for you to focus some of your marketing efforts on during these difficult economic times. Act now! There are a limited number of buy-in opportunities for this research.
