MISSION
The Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) is committed to
forming a broad-based coalition, representative of the various interests of
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans-persons, Two-spirited, and Intersex (GLBT)
owned businesses, GLBT operated businesses, GLBT friendly businesses,
professionals, and students of business for the purpose of promoting
economic growth and prosperity, through public and private sector advocacy,
to advance the common business interests and opportunities of its members.
POLICIES AND PRIORITIES
The CGLCC is a clearinghouse of ideas and information for and between
businesses and organizations. The CGLCC will work with provincial and
regional chambers and business groups on their issues to achieve success and
turn that success in one region into success for others. Most importantly,
the CGLCC will be the premier advocate on behalf of LGBT owned businesses,
professionals, students of business, and corporations that share in our
desire to expand the community's financial opportunities, economic growth,
continued innovation, and equality.
The CGLCC is dedicated to seeking input from its members in developing
policies and setting priorities. From the Board of Directors to the
committees, councils and task forces, the CGLCC is committed to diverse
leadership.
CHAMBERS AND BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS COUNCIL
The Chambers and Business Organizations Council (CBOC) is comprised of
provincial and regional GLBT chambers of commerce and business associations.
The CBOC has been established to give these organizations a voice at the
leadership table. The CBOC will elect its own leadership, discuss issues of
importance, recommend policy and help determine how to advance the interests
of the collective membership. In addition, the CBOC will serve as a venue
for its members to share information, discuss issues such as membership
development and retention, offer mutual advice for attaining success and
warding off failures, and communicate the needs of local groups to the CGLCC
Board.
CORPORATE ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) is a body composed of CGLCC corporate
partners. Its two-fold mission is to discuss issues in which the CGLCC, its
membership and those members of the CAC can work together to raise pubic
awareness regarding diversity. Through joint project partnerships,
memorandums of understanding, and other avenues, the CGLCC seek to educate
Corporate Canada and the public as to the economic benefits of providing a
diverse workplace and creating mutually beneficial relationships with the
GLBT and GLBT friendly business community.
COMMITTEES AND TASK FORCES
Comprised of CGLCC members, committees will be charged with identifying
issues of importance to the organization and aiding in development of a
strategic plan for addressing them. Whether it's advocacy in government or
business, education on new and emerging business technologies, employee
rights, trade, or other issues of importance to the LGBT business community,
CGLCC committees will be active in steering sound policies for
implementation.
Task forces will be named from time to time to address specific problems
that arise. CGLCC task forces will bring together representatives from both
committees and councils to share expertise and ideas in developing
recommendations on how to address the particular issue at hand. |
